Eighty people came to our meeting Thursday evening at the Pearl River Library, where NY State Senator David Carlucci graciously spent forty five minutes with us, attempting to answer questions concerning his membership in the Independent Democratic Caucus (IDC). The large turnout was clearly an indication of the growing awareness and alarm that democrats and progressives have about the IDC, which caucuses with Republicans and allows them to retain the senate majority leadership and control of the senate’s agenda. The many pointed questions and comments from attendees made it very clear that there is a considerable amount of unhappiness with Sen. Carlucci’s membership in the IDC.
The IDC is an important issue that progressives need to learn about, since it plays a pivotal role in whether or not progressive legislation gets passed in Albany. You can find info and resources concerning the IDC at the bottom of the previous Feb. 16th Meeting post.
